2017 Obetz Zucchinifest Pageant

The registration deadline for the 2017 pageant is Friday, August 11th.

The following rules and general information pertain to the 2017 Pageant.

 

*Update – The entire Pageant (all age divisions) will take place on Thursday the 24th.

The Pageant will take place in the courtyard of Fortress Obetz.

 

Eligibility and Proof of Age and Residency:

The Pageant is open to Obetz residents, Hamilton Township School District, and Groveport Madison School District residents. Positive proof of age and residency are required. You must provide a copy of your birth certificate, grade card, and a copy of your parents’ utility bill or lease with your application in order to verify residency.

Deadline to Register:

The deadline to register for the 2017 Obetz Zucchinifest Pageant is Friday, August 11th. Applications should be returned to Honee Angeletti at the Obetz Government Center located at 4175 Alum Creek Drive, Obetz, Ohio 43207. Proof of age and residency is required. An information packet will be mailed to all contestants.

Age Divisions:

There will be Tiny Miss Obetz, Tiny Mister Obetz, Little Miss Obetz, Little Mister Obetz, Little Princess, Princess, and Queen crowned in addition to a 1st and 2nd attendant in each age division. Contestants may not participate in the same age division in which they have previously won the title. The age divisions are as follows (age as of August 24, 2017):

  • Tiny Miss Obetz – 1-2 years old and walking
  • Tiny Mister Obetz – 1-2 years old and walking
  • Little Miss Obetz – 3-6 years old
  • Little Mister Obetz – 3-6 years old
  • Little Princess – 7-10 years old
  • Princess – 11-13 years old and in grades 6 through 8; permission may be granted for a 14 year old to participate if they are not in high school at the time of the pageant
  • Queen – 14-18 years old and in grades 9 through 12; individuals who will not be in high school during the 2017-2018 school year are not eligible to participate

Judging:

The judging for the Pageant will be as follows:

  • Thursday, August 24th at 6:30 PM
    • Tiny Miss Obetz
    • Tiny Mister Obetz
    • Little Miss Obetz
    • Little Mister Obetz
    • Little Princess
    • Princess
    • Queen

Please arrive at least 45 minutes before judging.

Parade:

The Zucchinifest Parade occurs on Saturday, August 26th at 11:30 AM. All 2016 contestants and 2016 winners are invited to participate in the parade. If a 2017 contestant wishes to participate in the parade they will need to be at the parade line-up with their own parade vehicle one hour prior to the start of the parade. The 2016 reigning queen and court will be provided with transportation in the parade. All other 2016 winners wishing to participate in the parade must provide their own vehicle. A parent or guardian of any 2017 contestant or 2016 winner wishing to participate in the parade will need to contact Honee Angeletti at 491-1080 by Monday, August 14th.

Attire:

Attire should be age appropriate and fit the contestant properly. Contestants should present themselves with poise, personal style, and overall neatness. Please consider the weather, the stage, and the stairs to the stage when selecting attire. Hair and make-up should complement the contestant’s style and beauty. Contestants should keep make-up to a minimum.

Pageant Outline:

The Pageant will be conducted as follows:
Tiny Miss Obetz and Tiny Mister Obetz:
Up to five contestants will be placed on stage with a parent/guardian at one time. The Master of Ceremonies will introduce each contestant by announcing the contestant’s name, parents’ names and contestant’s hobbies (information that is provided on entry form.) Each contestant will have a chance to wave to the crowd. Tiny Miss contestants will go first, then Tiny Mr. contestants. After both categories are finished, the top three contestants will be called back to the stage for crowning.

Little Miss Obetz and Little Mister Obetz:
Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. Contestants will be on stage individually. Contestants will be given 30 seconds to announce their name, parents’ names, school, hobbies, or other information they would like to share. After sharing this information, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered. Little Miss contestants will go first, then Little Mr. contestants. After both categories are finished, the top three contestants will be called back to the stage for crowning.

Little Princess:
Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. The contestants will do a runway walk which includes two turns. Contestants will then deliver a 30 second speech about their hobbies and interests. After delivering their speech, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered. Once all contestants have been presented, the top three will be called back to the stage for crowning.

Princess:
Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. Contestants will do a runway walk which includes two turns. Contestants will then deliver a 45 second speech about their hobbies and interests. After delivering their speech, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered. If there are more than three contestants in this category, the field of contestants will then be narrowed to the top three finalists following the delivery of speeches. The finalists will then be asked a question about themselves or their opinion on a local or national issue.

Queen:
Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. Contestants will do a runway walk which includes two turns. Contestants will then deliver a 90 second speech about their hobbies and interests. After delivering their speech, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered. If there are more than three contestants in this category, the field of contestants will then be narrowed to the top three finalists following the delivery of speeches. The finalists will then be asked a question about themselves or their opinion on a local or national issue.

The top three Princess contestants will be called back to the stage for crowning. The Queen contestants will be crowned following the crowned Princess and attendants.

Judging:
The judges will determine the winner and runners up in each age division. Judging will be based on personality, personal style, speaking ability (when applicable) and overall presentation. The following are examples of what the judges will be looking for:

  • Is the contestant having fun and happy to be participating?
  • Is the attire age appropriate?
  • Does the attire fit properly and show personality and style?
  • Is the contestant graceful and poised?
  • Does the contestant demonstrate confidence? Self-esteem? Pride in appearance?
  • If speaking; is the contestant speaking clearly with confidence and knowledge? Does the contestant capture the audience’s attention?

Requirement for Queen Category Only:

The contestants for the Queen pageant are required to help with the Jr. Pageant on Thursday evening. Contestants should arrive at the main stage by 6:00 PM to meet with the pageant staff. During the time helping with the pageant contestants may not use their cell phone, unless it is an emergency. Socializing with friends and not working in your assigned area is not permitted. You will be judged while helping with the event; therefore, your conversations, attire, and gestures must be appropriate.

Rehearsal:

Rehearsal time is available Wednesday, August 23rd to everyone who would like to have time on the stage. All contestants must arrive by 6:00 PM.

Contestants will only be permitted on the stage during their scheduled time. It is recommended that you practice in the shoes you will be wearing during the Pageant. The Pageant staff will be available to answer any questions that you may have. Please note: Contestants will not be allowed on stage to practice prior to the start of Pageant.
