2011 OBETZ ZUCCHINIFEST PAGEANT RULES

Welcome to the 2011 Obetz Zucchinifest Pageant. The following rules and general information pertains to the 2011 Pageant and are to be followed by all contestants.

• Eligibility and Proof of Age and Residency: The Pageant is open to Obetz residents, Hamilton Township School District residents and Groveport Madison School District residents. Positive proof of age and residency are required. You must provide a copy of your birth certificate and grade card with your application. If you live in Obetz, Groveport School District or Hamilton Local School District, but do not attend school at Hamilton or Groveport Madison, you must still submit a copy of your grade card and a copy of your parent’s utility bill or lease in order to verify residency.

• Age Divisions: There will be Tiny Miss Obetz, Tiny Mister Obetz, Little Miss Obetz, Little Mister Obetz, Little Princess, Princess, and Queen crowned in addition to a 1st and 2nd attendant in each age division. Contestants may not participate in the same age division in which they have previously won the title. The age divisions are as follows (age as of August 25, 2011):

o Tiny Miss Obetz – 1-3 years old
o Tiny Mister Obetz – 1-3 years old
o Little Miss Obetz – 4-6 years old
o Little Mister Obetz – 4-6 years old
o Little Princess – 7-10 years old o Princess – 11-13
o Queen – 14-18
• Judging: The judging for the Pageant will be as follows:

o Thursday, August 25th at 6:30 PM
    Tiny Miss Obetz      Tiny Mister Obetz      Little Miss Obetz      Little Mister Obetz      Little Princess

o Sunday, August 28th at 1:00 PM   
    Princess      Queen

o Please arrive at least forty-five minutes before judging.

• Parade: The Zucchinifest Parade occurs on Saturday, August 27th at 11:30 AM. All 2011 contestants and 2010 winners are invited to participate in the parade. If a 2011 contestant wishes to participate in the parade they will need to be at the parade line-up with their own parade vehicle one hour prior to the start of the parade. The 2010 reigning queen and court will be provided with transportation in the parade in the form of either a float or vehicle. All other 2010 winners wishing to participate in the parade must provide their own vehicle. A parent or guardian of any 2011 contestants or 2010 winners wishing to participate in the parade will need to contact Haley Ross at 491-1080 by Monday, August 22nd.

• Attire: Attire should be age appropriate and fit the contestant properly. Contestants should present themselves with poise, personal style, and overall neatness. Please consider the weather, the stage, and the stairs to the stage when selecting attire. Hair and make-up should complement the contestant’s style and beauty. Contestants should keep make-up to a minimum.

• Pageant Outline: The Pageant will be conducted as follows:
o Tiny Miss Obetz and Tiny Mister Obetz: Up to five contestants will be placed on stage with a parent/guardian at one time. The Master of Ceremonies will introduce each contestant by announcing the contestant’s name, parent’s names and contestant’s hobbies (information that is provided on entry form.) Each contestant will have a chance to wave to the crowd.

o Little Miss Obetz and Little Mister Obetz: Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. Contestants will be on stage individually. Contestants will be given 30 seconds to announce their name, parent’s names, school, hobbies, or other information they would like to share. After sharing this information, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered.

o Little Princess: Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. The contestants will do a runway walk which includes two turns. Contestants will then deliver a 30 second speech about their hobbies and interests. After delivering their speech, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered.

o Princess: Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. Contestants will do a runway walk which includes two turns. Contestants will then deliver a 45 second speech about their hobbies and interests. After delivering their speech, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered.

If there are more than three contestants in this category, the field of contestants will then be narrowed to the top three finalists following the delivery of speeches. The finalists will then be asked a question about themselves or their opinion on a local or national issue.

o Queen: Contestants will be announced by the Master of Ceremonies while walking onto the stage. Contestants will do a runway walk which includes two turns. Contestants will then deliver a 90 second speech about their hobbies and interests. After delivering their speech, contestants should pause, wave to the crowd, and then proceed to exit the stage at the opposite end of where they entered. If there are more than three contestants in this category, the field of contestants will then be narrowed to the top three finalists following the delivery of speeches. The finalists will then be asked a question about themselves or their opinion on a local or national issue.

• Judging: The judges will determine the winner and runners up in each age division. Judging will be based on personality, personal style, speaking ability (when applicable) and overall presentation. The following are examples of what the judges will be looking for:

o Is the contestant having fun and happy to be participating?
o Is the attire age appropriate?
o Does the attire fit properly and show personality and style?
o Is the contestant graceful and poised?
o Does the contestant demonstrate confidence? Self-esteem? Pride in appearance?
o If speaking; is the contestant speaking clearly with confidence and knowledge? Does the contestant capture the audience’s attention?

• Volunteering - Queen Category Only: During the festival, the Queen’s category contestants are required to volunteer at the Pageant Thursday evening. Please arrive at 5:45 PM and meet near the stage. During the time you are volunteering, you cannot use your cell phone unless it is an emergency. Socializing with your friends and not working in your assigned area is also not permitted. You are being judged while volunteering; therefore conversations, attire, and gestures must be appropriate.

• The judges and the contestants shall have no contact with each other prior to the start of the Pageant. If this should happen, both the contestant and the judge will be disqualified.

• The Village of Obetz will make the decision to forfeit the title and crown if necessary.

• Rehearsal time will be available Wednesday August 24th to everyone who would like to have time on the stage; however, it is not required. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:
Tiny Miss and Tiny Mister Obetz – 5:30 to 6:15 PM
Little Miss and Little Mister Obetz – 6:15 to 6:45 PM
Little Princess – 6:45 to 7:15 PM
Princess – 7:15 – 7:45 PM
Queen – 7:45 – 8:15 PM

Contestants will only be permitted on-state during their scheduled time, refer to cover letter for the schedule. Contestants will have the opportunity to meet the other contestants, ask questions, and practice their presentation on stage. This time is scheduled for contestants to practice on stage and become familiar with how the Pageant will run. Please bring the shoes you will be wearing during the Pageant. The Pageant staff will be available to answer any questions that you may have. Please note: Contestants will not be allowed on stage to practice prior to the start of their competition the day of the Pageant.
